No exceptions to increase in lower VAT-rate

The Dutch State Secretary for Finance, Menno Snel, in response to Lower House questions on the subject has asserted that exceptions to the proposed increase in the lower VAT-rate are not on the cards as far as he is concerned. The lower rate applies to the basic necessities of life, potable water among them. The MPs having tabled the questions wanted to know how the State Secretary felt about making drinking water an exception to the tax hike. As it turns out Mr Snel is not considering reducing the tax on potable water either. The tax charge currently amounts to € 0.339 for every cubic metre of tap water (reference year 2018).
